Out of my prison

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 142

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Set me free from my prison, that I may praise your name.” (Psalm 142:7)
Is there a prison that you need to be set free from?
I don’t mean an actual prison, but a metaphorical prison.
A relationship or an addiction that is destructive?
A physical or mental health condition that is debilitating?
I have found that my own mind can be a prison I can’t escape from.
When circular thinking keeps drawing me back to hopelessness.
Or negative thinking, or unhelpful, unhealthy distractions.
When we feel trapped – because of ourselves or others, we are desperate.
Can you relate to David’s desperation in your own way?
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.” (John 14:1)
As a Jesus follower, I see in the Lord the hope and help I need.
When I pray through my journal, the Lord guides me out of my hopeless thoughts.
When I rest in him, I find the prison walls receding, and hope growing.
I personally praise the Lord for the way he helps me out of my ‘prison’.
PRAYER
Lord, my ‘prison’ may seem strange to others, but it is very real to me. Thank you for meeting me here, and helping me find the way out!

  1. “When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who watch over my way.” Sometimes when I feel discouraged and weakened or overburdened with worry – I do stop and take a time to recalibrate myself. I remind myself that my Heavenly Father does care for me. I am the ‘apple of his eye’ – it treasures me. Knowing that helps me get back into life and strive to do what pleases him. Sure I might reach for a favourite snack – a kind of comfort food, but even that I know only has limited effect. I do take comfort in the fact that in the past God has carried me through trying times – and here I am today. Help me Lord as I age to continue to hope in you and live each day so that I can serve – even in small ways!

  2. Emmanuel.
    God with us.
    God with me.
He is the One Who cares for my life.
He is the One Who watches over me.
He is my Refuge and Tower of strength.
He directs my footsteps to walk with Him always for He is my Comforter.
At all times I need to walk with Him and praise His name as He leads and guides me daily to live for Him.
    Praise the Lord.

And ‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus
Just to take Him at His Word
Just to rest upon His promise
Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord”
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
    How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er
    Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
Oh, for grace to trust Him more
