Sincere honest prayer

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 141

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign Lord.” (Psalm 141:8)
David is in a deadly conflict with ‘the wicked’.
A neighbouring nation attacking, or a rebellious leader in the land.
He contrasts himself with ‘the wicked’, showing God how good he is.
He prays, is careful how he speaks, and avoids doing bad things.
He is open to rebuke, willing to change and really hates wickedness.
Does God want us to list our credentials when we pray?
God inspires this prayer not because God needs to know what David is like.
God inspires David to honestly express his heart, to be real.
David was a flawed but sincere servant of God; he is not bargaining with God.
God wants us to be honest, to be sincere… “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24).
Do we sincerely love justice, mercy, kindness, generosity, forgiveness… God knows it.
Do we genuinely hate sin, dishonesty, greed, selfishness, pride… God knows it.
Don’t pretend to be something that you are not, God will see through it.
Pray as you are – the good, the bad, the ugly – God already knows the truth.
PRAYER
Lord, you know my heart. Help me grow in my commitment to you, and protect me from whatever would hinder me from doing good.

  1. David was a fugitive for many years of his life. He knew danger – threats on his life. Lord, He trusted in you and he wrote in this Psalm saying: ” in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death.” I can trust God so why am I fearful at times. God will not let me go – He loves me and His promises are ever true. Forgive me my fretful nature – help me to be bold in your name. Each day may I grow in the knowledge that even as I face my earthly death – I am not give over to eternal death – but that I am saved through Jesus who conquered sin and death once for all!

  2. Whatever I say, whatever I do, my thoughts, my deeds must be in tune with God’s way. Others need to see that I am His and He is mine. All for Jesus. Jesus Saviour pilot me. Prayerfully I greet each day anew that this is the day that the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it. By His Spirit He continues to lead me and guide me in the Way.

ll for Jesus! All for Jesus!
    All my being’s ransomed pow’rs,
all my thoughts and words and doings,
all my days and all my hours.

Let my hands perform his bidding,
    let my feet run in his ways;
let my eyes see Jesus only,
let my lips speak forth his praise.
