PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 1 Chronicles 10-11
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.” (1 Chronicles 11:2)
These chapters show us the transition from one government to the next.
Saul began with such promise, but his selfish ego brought him – and Israel – to ruin.
Of course, David begins with the same promise… how will his story end?
David becomes known as the greatest king in Israel.
But already in his reign we see signs of ego that undo his family.
His heirs pick up on that ego, and is magnified.
And eventually the line of David and the nation of Israel are back in captivity.
This is a reminder that no matter how great a human leader is, they all fall short.
We need a messiah that is on David’s throne, but greater than even David.
We need a shepherd willing to GO to Bethlehem for the need of the people (11:15-19).
I am not the shepherd people need, neither are you, nor any leader or ruler.
The sooner we realize our weakness (instead of boasting about our strength) the better.
My confidence in myself, as well as in other leaders, has plummeted.
Our ego always gets in the way; thankfully Jesus has stepped in to lead for us!
PRAYER
Lord, I am a weak leader but I trust in your strong leadership. Keep me humble as I lead, and help me to reflect your Spirit and your ways… without the ego.
“Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium for guidance, and did not inquire of the Lord” – Saul and his sons and the army of Israel – fallen. Saul had lost the connection with God. This contrasted with David and his courageous men – whom God protected and enabled. David won because he was connected – yes even so he lost it ast times too. I lose it at times and like Saul consult other sources before the Lord! The Lord is my strength – yet I slip at times! This reading is a reminder to keep connected and not rely on myself or other sources but in the LORD!
In times like these we can not break faith. Faith over fear. And as always we need to keep the commands of the Lord. We/I need to seek the face of the Lord and seek His guidance. Spirit of the living God, fall on me so that this day also I am an instrument of Your peace walking in Your SonShine. May others always see Christ Jesus living in me.
When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way;
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
