Surrounded and supported!

Posted on December 19, 2020December 18, 2020 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 2 Kings 5-6

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” (2 Kings 6:16)
When we walk with the Lord, we always outnumber our enemies.
This is not clear to our physical eyes, but the eyes of faith can see this.
The stories in this chapter remind Israel of God’s presence and power.
Not only in Israel, but everywhere, with everyone and everything.
In times of sickness, crisis, famine, war, we are surrounded and supported.
This does not mean that God always shows up in these visible ways.
There are many times when God’s purpose is greater than our immediate needs.
Jesus knew this; though surrounded by God’s armies, they did not step in.
“Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?” (Matthew 26:53)
My prayer is like Elisha’s: “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” (2 Kings 6:17)
I am surrounded and supported by the Lord’s presence, power and purpose.
No matter what happens, no matter how bad things look, there’s more of us with Jesus!
Today I want to try to be conscious of the Lord’s armies with me!
PRAYER
Lord, open my eyes to see your presence, your power and your purpose at work in my life. May this give me a humble boldness to move forward by faith even when things seem to be getting harder or worse.

The turnarounds in this reading are interesting to say the least. Naaman the Aramean commander gets healed by Elisha, the Aramean army surrounds Elisha but Elisha leads them to have a meal put on by the King of Israel – then the King of Aram comes back later and sieges Samaria – Elisha is called ‘Father’ by the King of Israel and then later he says he wants to kill him! The real turnaround God is looking for is for Israel to serve the Lord – not the foreign idols. Leaves me to question if my devotion is compromised? Do I put Jesus first? Do I see Jesus?

Each and every day I am in His presence. But do I feel and sense His presence that is always there? As I continue my journey in His SonShine, guide me by Your Spirit Lord that I sense Your presence. I start the day with You and I end the day with You, but help me see You during the day as I continue to serve You. Open my eyes Lord.

1 Come into God’s presence singing
    “Alleluia,
    alleluia,
    alleluia.”

2 Come into God’s presence singing
    “Jesus is Lord,
    Jesus is Lord,
    Jesus is Lord.”

3 Praise the Lord together singing
    “Worthy the Lamb,
    worthy the Lamb,
    worthy the Lamb.”

4 Praise the Lord together singing
    “Glory to God,
    glory to God,
    glory to God.”

think about it!

How few there are who have courage enough to own their faults, or resolution enough to mend them.
