PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 2 Samuel 11-12

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man!” (2 Samuel 12:7)
Paul describes David as “a man after God’s own heart” (Acts 13:22, see 1 Samuel 13:14).
Whatever that means, it has to include the fact that David sinned terribly.
There is no softening or prettifying what happens here; this is wicked.
Not even David’s repentance makes his sin less repugnant.
Nathan’s story is a classic picture of how God convicts us all.
Like David, we all sin; like David, we all condemn others for sinning.
For some reason we have an easier time seeing other peoples’ sins than our own.
But when ever we point the finger at others, the Spirit points back: ‘you are the one!’
“You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.” (Romans 2:1)
We all need mercy, and no ones sin is more or less forgivable than others.
As long as we don’t humbly and sincerely face our own sin, we miss out on God’s grace.
Whenever I read the bible, I need to apply it to myself, and not to others.
As Jesus followers, we have no business casting stones at others (John 8:7).
PRAYER
Lord, even as I call David’s sin repugnant and wicked, your Spirit reminds me that I am no better. By your grace I admit this, and want to be “after your own heart” like David.
