PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 2 Samuel 7-8
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Who am I, Sovereign Lord, that you have brought me this far?” (2 Samuel 7:18)
As a follower of Jesus I can relate to what David says here.
Who am I that I get to call God my father (2 Samuel 7:14)?
How can God bless me, when like David I have my own issues with sin?
Why would God stoop so low to unite Himself with a flawed human family?
The wonder of God’s grace ought to show itself in our response.
To be undignified in worship, willing to look weak before others (2 Samuel 6:22)
And to graciously welcome others like Mephibosheth to our table (2 Samuel 9:7).
Jesus becomes one with us, a member of the human family.
He joins us at our table, and bears the stain and smell of our sin.
He attaches God’s Name to us, pledges God’s eternal love for us (2 Samuel 7:15).
And as our brother, He establishes God’s kingdom by defeating our greatest enemy.
This amazing grace is for everyone, no matter who they are!
Who am I, who is anyone, that God should bring us back to Him?
Yet the answer is clear: I am – we are – God’s precious, much-loved children!
PRAYER
Lord, may I like David be undignified in my love for You because of Your grace, and may I be excessively gracious to others around me, like You have been to me!
Promises and blessing – Oh to be on God’s side! I’m blessed – I know Jesus. Jesus was the answer to the promise God gave to David – he is forever. Help me to use my blessing to be a blessing to others – not keeping it for myself! May I have your heart for the lost, the victims of injustice, of addiction and poverty.
Thank you for teaching us how to be humble God, and showing us the magnitude of your favour and blessing above all else. Lord help us celebrate what you do for us!
Today God is First as He is every day. I am His and He is mine and His banner over me is love. I need to talk and walk each day in His presence. I am never alone. He is my constant Guide. Jesus Saviour pilot me as I continue my Pilgrim’s progress walking daily in His SonShine.
Jesus, Savior, pilot me
Over life’s tempestuous sea;
Unknown waves before me roll,
Hiding rock and treach’rous shoal;
Chart and compass come from Thee;
Jesus, Savior, pilot me.
