PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 2 Samuel 5-6
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“I will celebrate before the Lord.” (2 Samuel 6:21)
I am not expressive like this in my devotion to the Lord.
But I am not expressive like this in my day to day life either.
Worship is how we personally respond to the greatness and goodness of God.
It is much more than music and singing (though for some is that all it is?).
I do sometimes wonder whether we worship ‘worship’, and not God.
That it is the music, or the experience of singing in a crowd, that fills us (or not).
Are we actually celebrating the Lord in our hearts when we worship?
Do our hearts celebrate in the Lord during the week, in ways other than music?
Are we responding to God in how we speak or how we act – this is worship too.
In the end, worship is a personal expression – for David, for you, for me.
And it is not up to me to judge how others worship, nor them me.
I prefer quiet classical music for enjoying the presence of the Lord.
Or a walk in the woods, where I often break out in words of thanks and praise.
The question for me is, ‘is my heart responding to the Lord, whatever I’m doing?’
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for the reminder that I can worship you in my heart and mind by how I work, how I respond to challenges, and how I speak to others. Help me to celebrate before you outside of churchy ‘worship’ times.
Finally David is established as King and he sets up his palace and administration. God blesses David and David regularly inquires of the Lord – and the Lord allows David to defeat the enemy. David wants to be close to God – and therefore he wants the Ark of the Covenant to come to Jerusalem – yet the laws concerning the care of the Ark – a sacred piece as it represents the covenant with God – must be respected – David is reminded and the death of Uzzah upsets him. Finally, the sign of blessing on Obed-Edom – convinces David and he brings the Ark to Jerusalem joyfully and with great sacrifice and honor. David humbles himself in joy! Am I this joyful in the sight of God? Help me to be more joyful as David was here – God is faithful- he deserves my heart joy!
“I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these that you spoke of, I will be held in honor”
Amen
Talking, walking, dancing in the presence of the Lord God. David continually inquired of the Lord. I need to do the same. I too am always in His presence and my walk and talk need to show that presence. All of life is worship and I need to be SpiritLed to live that life of service to Him.
Peter and John went to pray.
They met a lame man on the way
He asked for alms and held out his palms,
And this is what Peter did say
Silver and gold have I none,
But such as I have give I thee,
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.
He went walking and leaping and praising God,
Walking and leaping and praising God,
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.
Walking daily in His SonShine.
