This is what Jesus did!

Posted on September 12, 2020September 12, 2020 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 1 Samuel 27-28

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“This is what David did.” (1 Samuel 27:11)
Just because something is in the bible, doesn’t mean we should do it.
David lied and slaughtered people to protect himself.
I’ve heard people refer to their belief or practice as ‘biblical’.
But there are a LOT of things in the bible, that doesn’t make them good.
Are polygamy, divorce, concubines, etc. biblical… its in the bible!
How about old David taking a virgin to bed to keep warm (1 Kings 1:1-2)?
The characters of the bible are imperfect sinners, not our models.
God inspires scripture to expose our hearts and show us our need for Jesus.
The bible points us to Jesus, and Jesus shows us God’s will.
We are commanded to listen to Jesus, who Moses and Elijah point to (Mark 9:7).
We are urged to make Jesus our pattern, like Paul did (1 Corinthians 11:1).
Not everything Paul, David or Moses said or did are what we should say or do.
We need to filter what we read through Jesus, and through the law of love!
‘This is what Jesus did’… he is our Saviour, our Lord, our example.
PRAYER
Lord, through the whole story of the bible and all its characters, you stand out above all. I choose to trust in you for mercy and help to do what you did!

My future is uncertain. David again sought refuge among the Philistines – Saul sought a medium to ask about his future – what do I do about an uncertain future? Do I depend on myself? When I consider this I know the answer is in Jesus – I need to see the future through eyes of faith. I remember while living in Bangladesh we were always careful, uncertain if we would also be accused and forced to leave because of our activity. So we acted carefully – but really it was up to God’s protection. Looking back it is easier to see – looking forward we act more like David/Saul. Getting old also leads to uncertainty – what may afflict me – will I lose my ability to think and appreciate the love of Jesus – always? Help me to trust each day as I walk with the Lord!

    Intouch.
How do stay intouch with God? How do I know His will for my life?
I need to talk to Him daily and dress myself with His armour so that I may produce fruit of the Spirit. Not my will but His be done.
Stay in tune with Him always.
Good morning Lord. Today is a new day walking in Your SonShine.

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

think about it!

Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.
