The true meaning of AWESOME!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 33

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses.” (Psalm 33:7)
It is too bad we’ve emptied the word ‘awesome’ of its meaning.
It was the perfect word to express how extremely impressive and daunting God is.
David attempts to express how GREAT (this word seem so feeble) God is.
Whatever is great to us (like the sea) is miniscule to God… He stores the sea in jars!
This may seem ridiculous idea, but how else do you describe the indescribable?
Unfortunately many believers have lost their sense of the true awesomeness of God.
Whatever may impress us in this world is nothing in comparison to God!!!
Expanding our thoughts about God (ie ‘magnifying God’) is helpful for the soul.
Not just as a reminder of how small we are, but of how great the God that is for us is!
“They were terrified, ‘Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!’” (Mark 4:41)
Jesus emptied Himself of His God-greatness to become like us (Philippians 2:6-8).
But God backed Him with Spirit-power, doing great and awesome things through Him.
God can also do great things through us when we humble ourselves before His greatness.
As long as we’re more impressed with our greatness, we miss out on God’s true greatness!
PRAYER
Lord, You have shown us the greatness of God in human flesh. This is what we were made for, but pride keeps us from enjoying it. Teach me the true meaning of AWESOME!

  1. Thankfulness.
The attitude of gratitude with altitude.
The key to thankfulness is a heart that relies totally upon the Lord. It is He who made us and we are His. And I need the eyes of faith to see His presence everywhere. Open my eyes Lord I need to see You. I see Him in His handiwork of the springtime. Rebirth. I need to put my hope and trust in Him always and forevermore.

In the stars, His handy work I see
On the wind, He speaks with majesty
Though He ruleth over land and sea
    What is that to me

    I will celebrate Nativity
For it has a place in history
Sure He came to set His people free
    What is that to me

‘Til by faith I met Him face to face
And I felt the wonder of His grace
Then I knew that He was more
Than just a god who didn’t care
That lived a way up there

And now He walks beside me day by day
Ever watching on me, lest I stray
Helping me to find that narrow way
    He’s everything to me

  2. Our hope is not in vain, but in a God who is faithful and just – who has plans that we can rely on – even now as we wait for this plague of a virus to ‘pass us by’. God spoke and the universe came to be – how bit is that- there is nothing greater. Reflecting, we also ought to speak and sing of our God – who is Almighty and majestic – yet comes to us as Jesus to make us right so that we might worship him in spirit and truth!
