PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Genesis 10-12
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“All peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:3)
From the beginning God’s plan was to “fill the earth” with His blessing (Genesis 1:28).
When humans sinned, they preferred to huddle rather than spread out (Genesis 11:4)
This Babel (empire) mentality is in us too: to pull together to protect and serve ourselves!
Abraham is chosen, not for himself but for a mission, to “fill the earth” with God’s blessing.
Too often God’s people think of being chosen (election) as a privilege.
It is not for us, but for the world, for a mission, to be a blessing.
Jesus commands His followers to go to all the nations, to spread His blessing.
In Acts 6:7 the disciples were huddling in Jerusalem, instead of spreading out.
Once again God causes a ‘scattering’ of people, this time through persecution (Acts 8:1).
“Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.” (Acts 8:4)
God uses division or persecution to motivate His people to go, to spread His love.
I wonder whether our preference to build bigger churches is related to this.
Instead of spreading out, we prefer to huddle, to make a name for our ‘church’.
Does God allow church fights and splits to spread us out, so His blessing can spread?
PRAYER
Lord, You have freely blessed me to freely bless. And yet I find myself hiding in the church bubble. Help me to freely choose to go, and not wait for situations that force me to go!
Stepping out in faith – following God’s leading is what is needed – it’s not popular – but it’s not alone either. Listening and be aware of the spirit’s nudging – urging me to be a blessing to others.
God speaks. Abram follows His instructions/direction. God tells him he will bless him and Abram will be a blessing to others. May I, too, hear God’s instructions for me so that I can be a blessing to others.
Languages.
Having been in various countries, a universal language is very beneficial. It greatly helps with understanding one another and accomplishing our task. And yet, we don’t always say what we mean or use language to accomplish our selfish desires by not saying what we really want. At times we speak with a forked tongue.
Once upon a time there was one language and a common speech. However, it was not used for God’s purpose. Our world belongs to God and we need to work in that Spirit. Whether one language or many languages, the goal need to be the same – we are His Kingdom workers in this His Creation to be a blessing to those around us. They need to see Christ in us as we are living for Jesus having a universal language of the love of God.
