The source of LIFE

Posted on December 31, 2014December 31, 2014 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: John 11:17-27
“I am the resurrection and the life.” (John 11:25)
Through this ‘I am’ statement, Jesus equates Himself God and with God’s LIFE.
John writes in his letter later on: “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.” (1 John 5:11)
Though we are physically alive, we are not fully alive, physically and spiritually.
(Two Greek words for life: ‘bios’ for physical life and ‘zoe’ for physical/spiritual life together).
Ever since we lost our connection to God, we lost our connection to fully alive ‘life’ (‘zoe’ or LIFE).
The reason we are dying is because we are disconnected from the source of LIFE.
We all sense it, we feel ‘death’ at work in us and around us, all through the world.
Every time something goes wrong, every time someone gets sick, every time someone dies…
We feel deep inside of us a longing for LIFE.
People sensed this LIFE in Jesus, some resisted it and some welcomed it.
“The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26)
Jesus is God’s answer to the problem of LIFEless living, God’s solution to the problem of death.
Jesus reconnects us to God, removing the barriers that keep us apart.
With Jesus, we have God’s LIFE, and not even death can take that away.
Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” (1 John 5:12)
“Do you believe this?” (John 11:26)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I want to believe this. Death seems so much more real. Yet deep down inside my soul reaches for life, for God, for You. I want to LIVE!

    Observation/Application
The raising of Lazarus is more than a miracle. It is a sign of the promise of God that He is the resurrection and the Life which is reality and a possibility this day.

As I stand on the threshold of a new year, and reflect on what this past year has brought me, then I must be able to see all what the Lord God has done for me.

    Real life!
    Real living!
    Real serving!
Real walking each day in His SonShine so that I can let LightShine.

I like Thomas and Martha must proclaim ‘My Lord and my God!’

Give me oil in my lamp, I pray,
Give my oil in my lamp, keep me burning,
Keep me burning ’till the end of day.

    Sing hosanna, sing hosanna,
Sing hosanna to the King of kings!
    Sing hosanna, sing hosanna,
    Sing hosanna to the King!

Give me peace in my heart, keep me resting,
Give me peace in my heart, I pray.
Give me peace in my heart, keep me resting,
Keep me resting ’till the end of day.

    Sing hosanna, sing hosanna,
Sing hosanna to the King of kings!
    Sing hosanna, sing hosanna,
    Sing hosanna to the King!

think about it!

God allows us to experience the low points of life in order to teach us lessons we could not learn in any other way. The way we learn those lessons is not to deny the feelings but to find the meanings underlying them.
