Spiritual heartburn

Posted on September 25, 2014September 23, 2014 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Luke 24:28-35
“Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:32)
Have you ever experienced this?
You were reading the Bible, and something you read hit you deep inside.
You sense that God is speaking to you.
The disciples refer to this as spiritual heartburn.
When the Spirit of God is stirring deep inside, giving you a sense of…
Of comfort?
Of conviction?
Of hope?
Of love?
I think many Christians miss out on this spiritual heartburn because they don’t eat the kind of food that causes it – namely the scriptures.
“When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight.” (Joshua 15:16)
Unless we take the time with Jesus, listening for Him to speak to our hearts, we will miss out.
The Voice of God still speaks today, and you can experience this heartburn too.
If you seek it, if you pursue it, if you desire it.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, speak to me today as I spend time with You and scripture. May Your Spirit burn in my heart the message I need to hear from You.

    Observation/Application
Engage the Word with other believers.
    Share what He has accomplished.
    Tell the Story.
Experience His presence with the breaking of bread.
Open my eyes Lord by Your Spirit that I may see You each day anew in the daily affairs of life.
Help me to share Your story in my life living for Jesus.

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
    I want to see You
    I want to see You

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
    I want to see You
    I want to see You

To see You high and lifted up
Shinin’ in the light of Your glory
Pour out Your power and love
As we sing holy, holy, holy

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
    I want to see You
    I want to see You

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
    I want to see You
    I want to see You

To see You high and lifted up
Shinin’ in the light of Your glory
Pour out Your power and love
As we sing holy, holy, holy

    [Repeat two more times]

    Holy, holy, holy
    We cry holy, holy, holy
    You are holy, holy, holy
    I want to see you

    Holy, holy, holy
    Holy, holy, holy
    You are holy, holy, holy
    I want to see you

    Holy, holy, holy
    Holy, holy, holy
    Holy, holy, holy,
    I want to see you

think about it!

We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature – trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence… We need silence to be able to touch souls.
