Reflecting on Acts 2:14-41
“Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.” (Acts 2:33)
Peter is explaining the significance of this moment.
The sights and sounds are the result of a creation being restored.
This “man accredited by God” (2:22) is now ruling the Universe with God.
This ‘Adam’ has rejected the serpent’s lies and has reversed the curse.
He has received the Spirit of Life (Genesis 2:7) and is renewing the world.
This is the full commencement of God creation kingdom.
We are now living under the rule of Adam, a God-like human being.
And He is ruling with God-like humility, grace and compassion.
And Jesus’s followers are empowered to help Him make this world ‘very good’ again.
The promised Spirit produces in us the fruit of the Spirit, the character of God.
Living as Pentecost Christians is not just about ‘speaking in tongues’.
It is about declaring and demonstrating the wonders of God as seen in Jesus.
And the Spirit of God will back us with miracles, wonders and signs.
We are living in the kingdom of God, with Adam on the throne.
But are we reigning with Him in the Spirit of humility, grace and compassion?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, sadly many of us still listen to the serpent's lies and refuse to reign in the power of Your humility, grace and compassion. We need another Pentecost moment to remind us what the wonders of God are... love, joy, peace, patience, kindness goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control!
