Reflecting on John 17:25-26“I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.” (John 17:26)
Most people in the world believe in God, but do they really know God?
I mean, is the way they think about God the way God really is?
Jesus shows us a God that is loving, compassionate, merciful, generous.
Many people view God as distant, angry or demanding, ready to punish.
Or they view God theologically, using philosophical categories, and not personally.
Jesus reveals God as a Father, His normal way of addressing God.
Not primarily judge or king of warrior or punisher, but as a loving Father.
‘God with us’ shows up as a humble servant, suffering with and for us.
When we see Jesus, we see what God is like… yet is this how people see God?
Most religions, including Christianity, don’t seem to view God like Jesus.
The Jesus version of God is the God I want – need – to know.
I desperately long to have this kind of love in my life, to know and show it.
I think most (all?) our problems in the world stem from not knowing God like this.
Jesus’s prayer is that everyone could be rooted and established in love.
Is this your prayer too… for yourself, and for everyone?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I pray that, being rooted and established in love, I may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep Your love is, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that I may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God!
