Reflecting on John 16:1-11“Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” (John 16:7)
Jesus knows He is going to die; this is the way He is going.
But suffering and dying is not a defeat; it is the way to the Father.
Jesus is assuring His disciples that His death will be a victory, not a defeat.
But what are the benefits of Jesus going through the cross to the Father?
The main benefit is that by His death, Jesus will reconnect us to God our Father.
The Spirit of God is God’s invisible presence and power.
Evil attempts to crush God’s Spirit in Jesus, and fails.
By choosing the way of humble, gracious love, Jesus beats Satan.
The way of love is vindicated, Jesus is restored and evil is defeated.
In His victory, Jesus sends God’s Spirit to help us overcome evil with goodness.
The world may kill us, but it cannot defeat us; we will overcome with Jesus!
The Spirit exposes the way of cruelty, and confirms the way of compassion.
The Spirit helps us to know the difference, and to aim for the better way.
The Spirit assures us that evil is defeated, and love will win!
The Spirit is our helper along the Jesus Way of humble, gracious love!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, Your way seems weak but it is the way of victory over evil and death. Thank You for going this way, and showing me it is the right way. Help my by Your Spirit to follow Your way of humble, gracious love... for it is the only true way to life with the Father.
Thank You Lord for showing us the Way. Thank You for Your Spirit is here leading and guiding and encouraging us to walk with you daily.
When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
