Reflecting on John 14:28-31
“If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.” (John 14:28)
If Jesus is God, then how can the Father be greater than Jesus?
We need to distinguish between God as God is, and God as God relates to us.
Essentially God is One, yet God is experienced by us in a threefold way.
We experience God as Father over us, Jesus with us, and the Spirit in us.
Jesus is God reduced to a human, emptied of equality with God (Philippians 2:6), to be with us.
We shouldn’t try to understand the surpassing mystery of this threefold oneness.
Instead we should experience it, like a huge freshwater lake on a hot day.
You cannot understand its full width and depth and breadth, or all that it contains.
But on a hot day, you can immerse yourself in its fullness, and let it refresh you.
Each ‘person’ in the trinity is a part of the fullness of God; Jesus is where we step in!
Through Jesus we experience this fullness of God as LOVE.
Through Jesus we “grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and know this love that surpasses knowledge… filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:18-19)
The prince of this world (the power of evil) cannot separate us from this love.
There is nothing greater than being held by this immeasurable fullness of divine love.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I want to know You, and through You to know the Father and the Spirit... not to understand each One, but to experience the fullness of God through them. I want to dive in and be refreshed by God's glorious greatness and goodness!

Emmanuel. God with us. I am alive in Christ. I am lead by his Spirit. God made all this happen. This is how I am alive but how the three work in me from day to day is a mystery. I just need to continue to practice the Way in my daily living.
