Reflecting on John 12:44-46” The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me.” (John 12:45)
Once again Jesus stresses the connection between Himself and God.
When we see Jesus loving, suffering, forgiving, blessing, we see God in action.
‘Jesus’ is the answer when someone asks what God is like.
‘Jesus’ is the glorious goodness of God revealed in the clearest way.
This glorious vision surpasses the glory of what Moses saw (2 Corinthians 3:7-18).
This for me is the central and defining message of scripture.
We find hints of this vision in the OT, buried in its ancient culture and context.
The NT (Acts-Revelation) testifies to this vision through its culture and context.
But Jesus Himself, revealed in the flesh and recorded in the Gospels, is the key.
The better we know Jesus, the better we know God, and the good news of God.
For me, Jesus needs to be our focus and priority, not the rest of the bible.
The OT and NT are like scaffolding around the building; its the building that counts.
My concern is that too many Christians are bible-Christians, not Jesus-Christians.
They are shaped more by Moses and Paul, than they are by the vision of Jesus.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, God’s glory in the flesh, and we will become more like Him.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I want to know You, and to become more like You. For when I focus on You, I am seeing God, and being renewed to be like God.
