One with Jesus and God like this!

Reflecting on John 10:31-39

“That you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.” (John 10:38).

Jesus first said, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:29)
Now He says that the Father is in Him, and He is in the Father.
This was seen as blasphemy by the religious leaders.
But Jesus points them to Psalm 82:6, “I have said you are gods” (John 10:34)
That psalm seems to be referring to leaders, appointed by God to rule justly.

Jesus is not speaking about His being divine or part of the trinity.
He is speaking about being God’s appointed Messiah to restore the world.
He is the last Adam, God’s image-bearer, God’s son, made to rule the world.
In a similar way, we were made to represent God – to be like God – in the world.
In this sense we could also say ‘I and the Father are one.’

As image-bearers, the Father is in us, and we are in the Father.
The evidence should be in what we do, the works of the Father.
“Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.
Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” (Psalm 82:3-4)
This is how we should be one with God, Jesus in us and us in Jesus!

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, when we see and hear You, we see and hear God our Father. The same love, compassion, fairness, mercy and concern for the weak and needy. May we be one with You in this, and may people see and hear God's goodness and love in us as well.
