Finding Jesus in what Moses wrote!

Posted on June 21, 2026June 21, 2026 by Norm
Reflecting on John 5:31-47

“If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.” (John 5:46)

Moses was wrote a lot of things, and not all of them about clearly about Jesus.
But there are some verses that point more clearly toward a messianic saviour.
Consider Genesis 3:15, Genesis 49:10 and Deuteronomy 18:15.
Other hints include the blessing for the nations, the Passover lamb, the bronze serpent.
There are many other symbols and experiences that point to Jesus.

Moses also wrote things that did not reflect God’s creation will (Matthew 19:8).
Moses as a witness was limited by his culture and worldview… he was not perfect.
Despite these limitations, God used Moses to help us find our way to Jesus.
We don’t look to Moses for political platofmrs or science information.
We don’t look for medical insight and we don’t use it to design a school curriculum.

Moses was permitted to write many things (Matthew 19:8), but God’s main message was Jesus.
This is how Jesus used the bible: “Beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, Jesus explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.” (Luke 24:27)
This is the better way to read the Bible, in a Jesus-centered, Jesus-shaped way.
Jesus, not Moses, David, Isaiah, Peter, James or Paul… Jesus is the message, the messiah!

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, "to whom shall we go, you have the words of eternal life. (John 6:68) The better I know You, the better I will understand Moses - and everyone else. Help me to see and hear and know You as I use the bible!

The BIBLE gives the Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. The OT points to Jesus and the NT is all about Jesus who gives LIFE and life eternal. Help me daily to use those instructions to live in your way, practicing the Way every day, in my living for Jesus.

think about it!

Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.
