Reflecting on John 1:43-51
“You will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.” (John 1:51)
In Genesis 28:10-22, Jacob has a dream at a place he called Bethel.
In that dream, the angels of God are ascending and descending on that place.
He called that place Bethel, the house of God, because God was in that place.
Jesus refers to this dream, and applies it to Himself.
God is appearing like He did to Jacob, but now in a person.
Jesus is the “house of God”, the “gate of heaven” (Genesis 28:17).
Through Jesus God reveals “I am with you!” (Genesis 28:15).
Like Jacob, at first Nathanael is not aware of God’s presence in Jesus (Genesis 28:16).
But Jesus’s words about the fig tree open his eyes, and he believes.
Jesus says that he has seen nothing yet; greater things are still to come.
How do you experience ‘God with us’ in Jesus?
Whatever experiences you have had, you haven’t seen nothing yet.
There is more to Jesus than we know or are aware of.
For our part we need to dedicate ourselves to knowing and following this ‘Bethel’.
The more we see and know Jesus, the greater the things we will see and experience!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You are the fullest and greatest and clearest revelation of God. You show us what God is like, how God is with us and God is for us. Open my eyes to be even more aware of how awesome You are!

As I live forJesus, I ask myself ‘Where did I see Jesus today?’ I see Him in my relationships, in how I my volunteering how some people seek me out, in my abilities in volunteering, my daily health – all encouraging me to continue to live for Him. The following song came to my mind for today’s reading:
Open the eyes of my heart Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see you
I want to see you
To see you high and lifted up
Shinin’ in the light of Your glory
Pour out your power and love
As we sing holy, holy, holy
