Come and you will see!

Reflecting on John 1:35-42

“‘Come,’ he replied, ‘and you will see.'”

Two of John’s disciples are drawn to Jesus, ‘the Lamb of God’.
They are not sure yet what they want, and ‘Where are you staying’ is an odd question.
My sense is they want to go where Jesus is, to stay with Jesus.
Jesus does not directly answer them, but invites them to follow.
They do not know where they are going, but they still follow Jesus.

This is how it goes when we choose to follow Jesus.
We do not know where it will take us, but it will be with Jesus.
As we follow, we discover the places that Jesus will take us.
If I think of my own life, I could not have predicted where Jesus would take me.
Yet the one constant has been that I have been with Jesus, and that was good.

I cannot tell you where following Jesus will take you.
Nor can I tell you that it will be easy or comfortable.
But Jesus is amazingly good, and good things happen where Jesus is.
You can’t experience this though unless you first decide to come and see.
If we do not come, we will not see… come, and you will see!

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, 'Oh Lamb of God I come, I come!' I don't know where You are going, but I want to be with You, and I want to see what happens when and where You work. I will come, I will see!

I love how John the baptist once again directs the attention to Jesus, the Lamb of God. The desire to know this Lamb of God motivates the disciples to follow…. Jesus asking them ” What do you want?” is an invitation to share with Jesus their personal desires. Jesus doesn’t dictate what they need or desire. He also seeks our personal desires. They reply with ‘Where are you staying?” This to me implies they want to be with Him, spend time with Him (very much a relational desire). How often do my own prayers put that relational desire first? Jesus replies with “Come and see”. He welcomes the relationship, the experience to be together. How I wish I could always be like the first disciples and simply blindly follow but unfortuneately, the me in me gets in the way. I want / need to know where it ends, what I’ll find, the step by step, the hows, the whys and so on…… How many times have I missed out on the relational because I was too distracted by my need to knows. LORD, thank you for your unending forgiveness. May I truly begin each new day that you bless me with, with the desire to blindly say “LORD, I come!” I am so grateful for the moments and experiences in my life when I did just simply follow You and the blessings that resulted. Thank You for never givng up on me! Open my eyes LORD, that I may see!

Hindsight is always 20/20. Looking back at this time in my life, I can only only say, ‘This is where the Lord led me over the years.’ I have traveled with Jesus and have seen and am still seeing Jesus at work in me, through me, being a Kingdom worker. I know He still has plans for me. I just Him to lead me and guide me as I put my hand into His. Jesus Saviour continue to pilot me.

think about it!

The preaching that this world needs most is the sermons in shoes that are walking with Jesus Christ.
