No basis for a charge!

Posted on May 4, 2026April 29, 2026 by Norm
Reflecting on Luke 23:1-12

“I find no basis for a charge against this man.” (Luke 23:4)

Pilate does not see Jesus as a real threat to Caesar’s throne.
If Jesus, weak and pathetic, is the best the Jews can do, then Caesar need not fear.
Herod comes to the same conclusion, when he lets the soldiers mock him.
Neither of them are troubled by the potential kingdom of Jesus.
The reason for this is because of Jesus’s political platform.

Jesus does not advocate violence, and even encourages paying taxes to Caesar.
He heals the servants of Roman soldiers, and befriends Roman tax collectors.
The signs He performs help and heal, they do not instigate trouble.
The only ones troubled are those troublesome religious leaders.
As Jesus followers, we should not be causing political trouble.

Our calling like Jesus is to do good, to show love, to extend grace.
This is how God’s kingdom works: “Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.” (1 Peter 2:17)
If we do good like Jesus, political leaders will find no basis for a charge against us.
They may mock us, but they will not feel threatened by our humble, gracious actions.

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, make me a channel of You grace, mercy and peace. May the world see that Your kingdom is NOT like this world, and that it is infinitely better!

    Our world belongs to God. I serve a risen Saviour and I need to be like Christ unto others, living at peace with one another. I nee to be a channel of His peace in my daily living for Jesus.

    1 Make me a channel of your peace:
    Where there is hatred, let me bring your love;
    where there is injury, your healing power,
    and where there’s doubt, true faith in you.
    2 Make me a channel of your peace:
    where there’s despair in life let me bring hope;
    Where there is darkness, only light,
    and where there’s sadness, ever joy.
    3 O, Spirit, grant that I may never seek
    so much to be consoled as to console,
    to be understood as to understand,
    to be loved as to love with all my soul.
    4 Make me a channel of your peace:
    it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
    in giving to all that we receive,
    and in dying that we’re born to eternal life.

think about it!

We cannot do great things on this Earth, only small things with great love.
