Lord, I am ready… I think!

Posted on April 24, 2026April 23, 2026 by Norm
Reflecting on Luke 22:31-34

“Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.” (Luke 22:33)

Growing up in church we sang many songs about commitment to Jesus.
“Take my life and let it be consecrated Lord to Thee…”
“Though none go with me, still I will follow…”
“I love to the tell the story…”

In a sense Peter is singing his own song of commitment.

Jesus knows that Peter’s spirit is willing, but his flesh is weak.
I find this encouraging, since Jesus did not give up on Peter.
Jesus by His Spirit is helping us in our faith, so that we will not fail.
Peter is a reminder to me to be less confident in my own faith.
Peter is also a reminder to me to be more hopeful in Jesus’s faithfulness.

It is not the strength of my faith or commitment that saves me.
It is the strength of His grace and commitment that saves me.
And remember, this also applies to that person whose faith you think is weak.
“Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.” (Romans 14:4)

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I cannot boast about what I am ready to do. I believe, yet help me in my unbelief. Help me to extend the same grace to others who claim to believe, and yet do not seem to follow through. Help me to not give up on them, because You don't!

My hindsight is better than my foresight. In past when I should have stood up forJesus, I was like Peter. I faltered and did take my stand for Him. But
    Grace, grace, God’s grace,
    Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
    Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin!
Because of that grace I still serve Him this day. That grace helps all His children to be instruments of His peace. So this day I go forward serving Him knowing He is my power within and help me when I falter. Lead me and guide Lord this day to do Your will.

think about it!

It is in the ordinary duties and labors of life that the Christian can and should develop his spiritual union with God.
