Reflecting on Luke 17:22-25
“But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.” (Luke 17:25)
Jesus turns to His disciples to explain His kingdom further.
Things will not get easier or better because of His coming.
People will be talking about the kingdom of God, but do not listen to them.
Their ideas about the Messiah and the kingdom of God are NOT correct.
In fact the Messiah will be cruelly abused and rejected by the people.
Everyone loves to talk about love, justice, goodness and peace.
But people want the kingdom on their terms, to their own advantage.
It is the human way to enforce the kingdom externally.
The Jesus Way of the kingdom seems like weakness to the world.
Every generation, including ours, is still rejects the Jesus Way.
Those who follow the Jesus Way will also be ridiculed and rejected.
And sadly, the religious establishment will support empire over God's kingdom.
Jesus's warning applies to us and our generation too: "If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!" (Matthew 10:25)
Dark days are upon us; will we stick to the light of Jesus and His Way?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, this generation is as mistaken as the generation in Your day. People still prefer external strength over inward character. They look for epic fury, not amazing grace. Prepare your followers for the dark days ahead, and may they not lose faith in the light of Your Way.
