Reflecting on Luke 13:31-35
“I must press on today and tomorrow and the next day—for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem!” (Luke 13:33).
The Pharisees are not worried about Jesus’s safety; they want Him gone.
But Jesus presses on demonstrating God’s good news kingdom, the power of God’s love.
Jesus knows that sharing God’s love will eventually get Him killed.
Herod may be a fox, but the religious leaders are wolves dressed as sheep.
God’s messengers of love and justice have often silenced by the religious leaders.
Despite calling them in love, the religious “were not willing” (Luke 13:34).
This was the reason Israel as a nation was desolated like it was.
This is why the people desperately longed for the Messiah to come.
Jesus followers, like Jesus, come in the Name of the Lord… showing God’s love.
They bring good news to the poor, the oppressed, those rejected and shunned.
All through history Jesus followers have been resisted by the ‘Church’.
Too often the ‘Church’ has sided with oppressors to silence this witness to Jesus.
Yet Jesus followers press on showing God’s love, for in the end love wins.
They continue to gather and protect, even if the people are not willing.
Will I press on showing love to the needy, the outcast, the oppressed?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, renew Your love in me so that I will press on showing and sharing Your love to those who need it most. Despite the unwillingness and opposition of modern day pharisees.
