Reflecting on Luke 11:33-36
“See to it that the light within you is not darkness.” (Luke 11:35)
Jesus is talking about how our lives can glow – or not.
If our focus in life (eyes) is healthy, it will show in our life.
People will see the glow of goodness and be drawn to it.
If our focus is dark, that will emanate from us too.
Jesus is speaking about our heart and mind and character.
What we set our eyes on is what we are seeking and desiring.
Do we seek and desire to bless others, making life brighter?
Even for ourselves, is our life focus healthy for us?
Jesus is challenging me to consider what I am focusing on.
Sometimes I do feed and pursue dark or gloomy thoughts.
They do not make me feel better, and not nice to be with.
If I want to feel full light, I’ve got to “see to it!”
Jesus is like the sun and we are like the moon.
We reflect light when we see – focus on – Him!
I want the glow that everyone sees to be worth seeing!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, help me to focus on whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, excellent or praiseworthy, so that this is what shines from me!

Today is ‘the Lord’s day.’ Every day is His day and I need to go forward in His name. Others need to see Him in me as I serve Him. I need the upward look and not the downward look. I know and need to show where my help comes from. I need to model that by my deeds and words. As the children’s song reminds me, ‘This little light of mine, I am going to let it shine . . . ‘
Lord, the light of Your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us
Set us free by the truth You now bring us
Shine on me, shine on me
