Reading through Matthew 23 (1)

Posted on May 19, 2025June 17, 2025 by Norm

This week (May 19-25, 2025) I am focusing on Matthew 23. Things are about to explode between Jesus and the religious leadership. Jesus does not hold back on His challenge to hypocritical, loveless shepherds who ought to be caring for the sheep. Although what Jesus says is specifically directed toward the religious leaders of His day, what He says can be important for us to hear as well.

What questions come to mind for you as you read these sections? What impression do you get about Jesus? What questions are raised, or what doesn’t make sense to you?

Are there any lines that you find comforting or convicting, confusing or compelling? Most important, what do you sense Jesus saying to you?

Feel free to leave your thoughts or questions in the comments below. And you may find it helpful to watch the Bible Project videos on Matthew, to get a sense of what Matthew is writing about.
