PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 20
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you.” (Matthew 20:25-26)
Jesus is contrasting His leadership style with the world’s.
Though Jesus is Lord, He does not Lord it over us.
Though he has all authority, He does not govern like the world does.
Jesus does not make Israel great again by aligning with Herod.
Jesus does not rule by executive order, police raids and mockery.
He does not mobilize an army, He does not petition or protest governments.
Jesus shows what true greatness is: humble, servant love.
These words need to be seriously considered by christians today.
In the church and in politics, I see christians selling out Jesus.
They are like the world in how they fight their ‘culture wars’.
As I see it, the institutional church is trying to rule like the Gentiles.
The Jesus Way is weak, and seems foolish in our world today.
But this is how Jesus defeated evil, and the only way we will too.
Lord Jesus, thank You for Jesus followers around the world who humble overcome evil as servants of goodness and grace. And shake up the institutional church so that they will hear anew: NOT SO WITH YOU!!!
