Trust the Pilot!

Posted on March 25, 2024March 23, 2024 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 8:22-25

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“As they sailed, he fell asleep.” (Luke 8:23)
How could Jesus sleep in the storm… why wasn’t he helping?
But what could he do, he was a carpenter, not a sailor.
He was in good hands – his father’s and his friends.
This story doesn’t tell us to sleep when bad things are happening.
They still needed to manage the boat, to do what they could.
But as we do what we can, we can trust God to do what God can.
Too often in our anxiety, we get in the way, making things worse.
Or we become immobilized by fear and leave our positions.
Imagine a pilot leaving the cockpit when turbulence comes.
Or passengers rushing into the cockpit when a storm comes.
We need to do what we can do, and trust God to do what God can do.
As we struggle through the storm, God will not leave his position!
Jesus gently reminds us to navigate the storm with him!
In our work and in our rest, we can always trust the pilot with us!
PRAYER
Lord, show me where I need to work and where I need to rest in you. Help me to trust the Pilot as we navigate this storm together.

    Fear of drowning or not being able to breathe is one of life’s most fearful things! Many of the disciples were fishermen – yet they feared drowning: “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” In life sometimes we feel like we are drowning to – it is good to call out to the Master – to trust that he will help us. Life can challenge me and I may be fearful – but I must trust – commit my fear to the Master and trust!

    Jesus was with the disciples in the boat. The disciples were always with Him being taught. I need to have Christ with me at all times too. All too often it is during the struggles in life we turn to Him. I need Him every hour to lead and guide me as I live for Him and live in His presence always. I need Him every hour.

    1 I need Thee ev’ry hour,
    Most gracious Lord;
    No tender voice like Thine
    Can peace afford.

    Refrain:
    I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
    Ev’ry hour I need Thee;
    Oh, bless me now, my Savior,
    I come to Thee.

    2 I need Thee ev’ry hour,
    Stay Thou nearby;
    Temptations lose their pow’r
    When Thou art nigh. [Refrain]

    3 I need Thee ev’ry hour,
    In joy or pain;
    Come quickly and abide,
    Or life is vain. [Refrain]

    4 I need Thee ev’ry hour,
    Teach me Thy will;
    And Thy rich promises
    In me fulfill. [Refrain]
