PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 8:19-21
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.” (Luke 8:21)
The family bond is the closest bond we know.
That bond is more than just physical, it is relational.
And for that bond to be good, love is essential.
Jesus says God’s message of love put into practice matters most.
All of scripture hangs on this command to love (Matthew 22:40).
God created his human family in and for love.
And because of love he sent Jesus to save his family.
God still loves his whole human family.
Jesus comes for all God’s family, not just some of them.
To experience the joy of God’s family love, it must be lived!
If I ignore, shun, exclude, or look down on other family members…
If I am jealous, greedy, arrogant, pushy… I ruin the family life.
God’s family love reaches out to ALL his children – does mine?
Not just with words or speech but with actions and in truth! (1 John 3:18)
PRAYER
Lord, this is the message we heard from the beginning: we should love one another. Help me to not only know your message, help me to put it into practice!
Jesus calls me a brother because I believe in Him and want to do His will! That connection to Jesus is more important than blood: “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.” He’s right of course – what’s the point of having all kinds of earthly family and friends if I’m not connected to the one who saves me from condemnation! Sure Jesus wants all to believe and come to the Father but the connection is by faith. Even as I have opportunity to share what Jesus means to me I know each person has to come and make that step in faith. We don’t know who they are, we just have to be faithful so that we may be sharing the good news of Jesus!
Kids of the Kingdom. That’s who we are. Family members. All who hear the Word of the Lord and do the Word of the Lord are members of His family. This is a relationship family bonded together by the love of God. Family members is more than being related by biological means. It is a spiritual relationship through the blood of Christ which ties us together. We are all one in His Spirit. WoW!
