The captain of my ship!

Posted on June 30, 2024February 7, 2024 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 93

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“The Lord reigns… indeed, the world is established, firm and secure.” (Psalm 93:1)
In Jewish thinking, the earth was established on the waters (Genesis 1:2,6-10).
The waters were beneath and above the earth (Genesis 7:11-12, Psalm 148:4).
When the seas lifted up (v.3), the earth could have been in great peril.
But the Lord is mightier than the seas (v.4), therefore the earth is secure.
For Jews, water (seas, rivers or rain) symbolized the power of darkness.
Passing through sea and river, surviving the storm, were signs of God’s care.
No matter how the darkness raged and stormed, the Lord still reigns.
This reminds me of Jesus’s crucifixion, waves of darkness crashing against him.
All hell broke lose on the cross, but Jesus survived the storm.
Because of his victory over the storm, we also declare ‘the Lord reigns!’
What is your storm, how is life raging against you, where are you drowning?
Do not let the storm convince you it is more powerful than God.
See Jesus walking on the stormy waves, and reach out to him.
Step into the waters with your eyes on Jesus, and you will be secure as well!
PRAYER
Lord, you walked on water, turned water into wine, slept in the boat in the storm and commanded the waters to be still. With you as the captain of my ship, I shall be established, firm and secure!

    Even though the storms and disasters seem to be more frequent and intense, we have to take comfort in knowing our Heavenly Father – who is almighty God and sovereign creator: “indeed, the world is established, firm and secure.” We are continually reminded of our own limitations in the face of storms – it serves to remind us of the awesome power of our God – whom we can trust. That is where there is solid ground – a frim foundation in the face of the storms of life. Thank you Father!

    He was. He is. He forever will be Lord over all.
    Today we still see the strength of the seas – the water – its force – its power. Tat reminds me of the disciples on the boat, afraid of their lives in the storm. However Jesus stilled the storm. He is over all. The disciples went to Jesus and he calmed the storm. Peter walked on water when he kept His eyes on Jesus.
    I need to do the same – keep my eyes on Jesus. He is my Helper, my Power, my daily Strength.

    O soul, are you weary and troubled?
    No light in the darkness you see?
    There’s light for a look at the Savior,
    And life more abundant and free.
    Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
    Look full in His wonderful face,
    And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
    In the light of His glory and grace.
    2
    Through death into life everlasting
    He passed, and we follow Him there;
    O’er us sin no more hath dominion
    For more than conqu’rors we are!
    3
    His Word shall not fail you, He promised;
    Believe Him and all will be well;
    Then go to a world that is dying,
    His perfect salvation to tell!

think about it!

Christ has no body now on earth but yours, no hand but yours, no feet but yours; yours are the eyes through which Christ’s compassion looks out on the world; yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good and yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now.

— St. Theresa of Avila
