SCRIPTURE: Psalm 54
The background to this Psalm is 1 Samuel 26, where David has a chance to kill Saul, but doesn’t.
David is on the run, and his own neighbours are reporting on his whereabouts, trying to get him killed.
Even though God has promised him that he would one day be king, he refuses to kill Saul, who was also anointed by God… He leaves that up to God.
David trusts God to rescue and establish him: “The Lord rewards everyone for doing what is right and being faithful… May he save me from all trouble” (1 Samuel 26:23-24).
We need to do what is right, regardless of whether it gets us ahead or not.
We need to be confident in God’s help, and not resort to human schemes or ploys to gain our own advantage.
Trust and obey, and leave the results to God: He will save us from all our enemies.
What are the threats, the challenges, the false accusations, the opposition I may be facing today?
I should not become like them, I should not become crooked or mean or cruel in revenge.
Instead, I need to heed the words of Paul, and follow the example of Jesus:
My friends, don’t try to get even. Leave room for God to show his anger. It is written, “I am the One who judges people. I will pay them back,” (Deuteronomy 32:35) says the Lord. Do just the opposite. Scripture says, “If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. By doing those things, you will pile up burning coals on their heads.” (Proverbs 25:21,22) Don’t let evil overcome you. Overcome evil by doing good.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, help me to focus on doing the right thing, and not just on my own advantage. Help me to trust You for success, for help, for victory. I choose to praise You because You are my helper, You will give me success!

David is pursued and where does he go for help? To the Lord. He makes God know of His situation, but God already knows for He is God. David knows that God is His Help, Shelter, Security, Sustainer. David continues his presence in His presence and does not revert to evil means. He knows God is God and He will deliver. Keep your eyes on Him every day in all ways. Focus of Jesus, no matter the situation. See Him every day.
Prayer
Where will I see You Lord this day – in church, at Manuel’s, in the ‘garden’, in my travels this day. help me to look for Your presence always and help me to pray.
