July 12 — Acts 9:32-43

SCRIPTURE: Acts 9:32-43

OBSERVATION:
The healing, resurrecting power of Jesus is still at work. These stories are similar to one’s in Jesus’ life. The result of these miracles is that many people put their faith in Jesus as Messiah. Peter makes it look so easy, so normal. Is it, should it be? Some Christ-followers see this as being normal for all, if they have faith; others see this as unique and occasional, only at certain times. Both back their view with Biblical support. There is no doubt about the power and possibility of such miracles, only about the extent and frequency.

APPLICATION:
My gut sense is divided on this. On the one hand I think that the Lord could do more through me if I was more open to it. On the other hand, I do not see these miracles as the main thing, but as occasional, God-ordained supports to the message. It is not a formula, one that could be used to enter the hospital to heal and raise everyone. But I do think that we need to be open to the Spirit’s leading, and that His intent is to do more and greater things through us, but we (me) are resistant.

PRAYER:
Lord, I admit my fear and hesitation in claiming such miracles. I know You can do it, but I doubt You will. Help me to expand my confidence in Your power and purpose, to make myself available to You, and to leave the results to You. Amen.
