Resurrection hope produces generosity!

Reflecting on Acts 4:32-37

“With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus.” (Acts 4:33)

Why was the message of the resurrection so important for the apostles?
It was not just because it was an amazing story to tell.
The resurrection dramatically changed them, and how they viewed life.
The resurrection gave them a new philosophy for life and living.
They shifted from a ‘survival of the fittest’ mindset to one of generosity.

Their radical generosity was the result of a philosophy of life.
They were free to share because they knew in the end it would all end well.
They were free to care because they knew one day life would overcome death.
People trapped in the fear and desperation of death are not easily generous.
They struggle and strive to stay on top, to avoid death at all costs.

But Jesus’s resurrection keeps us confident that things will be better one day.
If the best is yet to come, I do not need to preserve what I have right now.
Jesus’s resurrection also assures us that love wins in the end.
Jesus was crucified because He loved the wrong people… but death did not win.
Our generosity today will produce eternal blessings, for in Jesus love wins!

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, may Your victory over death and dying liberate me to be generous and gracious with others. May the power of the resurrection turn into the power of grace at work through me!

Because He lives in me I can be His servant true doing the things like volunteering, serving Him in all I do. I am His servant and as long as I am able I share His love and grace where He has placed me being an instrument of His peace.

think about it!

We should seek to become reservoirs rather than canals. For a canal just allows the water to flow through it, but a reservoir waits until it is filled before overflowing, then it can communicate without loss to itself. In the church today, we have many canals but few reservoirs.
