June 25 — Psalm 132

Posted on June 24, 2007November 8, 2023 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 132

OBSERVATION:
As the pilgrims arrive at the temple, they cannot help but compare it to its former glory. The Psalmist here reminds himself and God of David’s original intent with the temple, and God’s promise to maintain His rule (throne) from Jerusalem. In light of its weakness and Israel’s status as a subjected nation, the Psalmist is claiming God’s promise in spite of everything that he sees around him. He affirms God’s presence, despite the weak appearance of the temple. It may not look like it, but God is still in charge here, and He will one day restore His glory here!

APPLICATION:
This psalm can be applied to the weakened state of the church today, and the promise of Christ that the gates of hell will not prevail against His church (Matthew 16:18-19). It can also be applied to my own incompleteness as a temple for the Lord. Sin still tarnishes my character, the world still stains my glory. But the Lord lives in me, He made a promise, and one day my glory will be revealed. One day I will be as He made and saved me to be! Until then, I proceed by faith. Like the religious pilgrim, I carry on, despite the weakness and defeat I see.

PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for the reminder through this Psalm that no matter what things look like to the natural eye, eyes of faith can see beyond what is seen to what is invisible yet true. You are on the throne, in the world and in my heart. And one day I shall become like You! Thanks You Lord, Amen.

think about it!

Those who, in a day of peace, set themselves at Christ’s feet to be taught by Him, may, with comfort, in a day of trouble, cast themselves at His feet to find favour with Him.
