There are two readings for today.
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 92
OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
Senseless people do not know, fools do not understand, that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever. But you, LORD, are forever exalted. [Psalm 92:6-8]
The psalmist chooses to sing for joy, even though he sees the wicked flourishing for a season – he knows that season is short.
He knows that they will eventually be toppled, and God’s purpose will triumph.
It doesn’t matter how messed up things get in this world, the Lord is forever exalted.
This is why it is good to praise the LORD and make music to His name, proclaiming His love in the morning and His faithfulness at night. [Psalm 92:1-2]
Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!” [John 12:27-28]
Jesus knows what is coming, He knows that for a season darkness will reign, and the wicked will flourish.
But He also has God-sense, He is wise to know that the wicked cannot succeed forever, that they are not exalted forever, for God is.
Therefore, even though His soul is troubled, He does not cry out for rescue or help, rather He entrusts Himself into the exalted hands of His Father.
Instead of glorifying His troubles (making them bigger than God), He glorifies God (making God bigger than His troubles).
This is also what the Psalmist does, he turns a crisis into a time for praise.
This is also a good thing for us to do.
When we face troubles, when evil seems to triumph in our lives, when our souls are troubled and we are overwhelmed, that is a time for praise, to make music to His Name, to proclaim His love in the morning and His faithfulness at night!
What this does is it surrounds us with God confidence, it lifts up our spirit when the world is dragging it down.
Start right now: what is dragging you down, what is troubling your soul?
Remind yourself of the Lord’s love and faithfulness, declare that He is exalted forever, and glorify Hi Name!
PRAYER:
Lord, there are things that are troubling my soul today. I choose to glorify You! You are exalted forever.
