PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 13:31-58
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.” (Matthew 13:52)
After speaking in parables, Jesus asks them if they understand (v.51).
He then explains how his teaching relates to the Law of Moses.
When a teacher of the Moses Law meets Jesus, they discover something new.
Yet it is is not new, it was always there in the storeroom.
What Jesus teaches seems new, yet it is very old, buried within the Law.
“Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard.
Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.” (1 John 2:7-8)
The Moses Law was not able to clearly reveal the fullness of God’s Law of Love.
It was a shadow of the truth, the reality is found in Jesus (Colossians 2:17).
All the Moses Law and the Prophets hang on the command to love (Matthew 22:37-40).
Love is the kingdom seed, the key to separating wheat from weeds, good and bad fish.
Unless we understand the love of God in Jesus, we do not understand the Moses Law.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, you show us what the Moses Law was getting at. The shadows are passing, the light of your love is shining. Help me to understand your love, and to glow with it towards others.
