Increase my heart!

Posted on August 7, 2024July 31, 2024 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 21:1-4

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“This poor widow has put in more than all the others.” (Luke 21:3)
It is the size of the giver’s heart, not the gift, that counts.
God can do more with a widow’s penny than with large donations of the rich.
God doesn’t need our money, but desires our hearts.
Better big heart with little gifts than big gifts with little heart.
God can do great things through small numbers if the heart is involved.
Our time, talents and treasures unite together for Jesus and the cause.
The world looks at the size of the gift, God looks at the size of the heart!
God’s mission teams (i.e. churches) work with and through giving hearts.
Sadly churches often become too focused on money and budgets.
We have to find a way to focus on mission, not on money.
Maybe the more we focus on mission, the less money will be a problem.
If our treasure is God’s kingdom and justice, everything else will follow.
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21)
Also the opposite: where your heart is, there your treasure will be also!
PRAYER
Lord, may my heart be big, no matter what I am giving. Use my gifts of any and every size to build Your kingdom!

    What a trust this widow had – she had next to nothing, yet she faithfully brings her gift. She put her security in the right place. She reminds me to rethink what I am doing – also to give – I know my giving is not sacrificial like hers – I have much so it is easier to give. Lord, you know my heart – help me to be gracious and generous with what you have entrusted to me! Help me and enable me to be a source of blessing in your name!!

    All what I have I owe to the Lord. The blessings of the Lord need to be shared and I need to share what I have received from Him. How I use my money will also show where I place those resources in my life. Our checkbook will show how I use my resources – for my increase or His. The focus should not on how much I have but how I use what I have – for His Kingdom or building my own. His Kingdom lasts forevermore and mine will come crumbling down.

    1 All that I am I owe to Thee;
    Thy wisdom, Lord, has fashioned me.
    I give my Maker thankful praise,
    whose wondrous works my soul amaze.

    2 Ere into being I was brought,
    Thine eye did see, and in Thy thought
    my life in all its perfect plan
    was ordered ere my days began.

    3 Thy thoughts, O God, how manifold,
    more precious unto me than gold!
    I muse on their infinity,
    awaking I am still with Thee.

    4 The wicked Thou wilt surely slay;
    from me let sinners turn away.
    They speak against the Name divine;
    I count God’s enemies as mine.

    5 Search me, O God, my heart discern;
    try me, my inmost thought to learn;
    and lead me, if in sin I stray,
    to choose the everlasting way.

think about it!

The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches but to reveal to him his own.
