Something greater!

Posted on May 7, 2024May 6, 2024 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 11:29-32

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Something greater than Solomon is here.” (Luke 11:31)
“Something greater than Jonah is here.” (Luke 11:32)

Jesus was obviously more than just a teacher or prophet.
He was already performing signs and wonders to convince people.
The crowds sensed something greater and flocked to Jesus.
But not the religious leaders, “a wicked generation” (Luke 11:29).
Confident in their own rightness, they looked down on Jesus (Luke 19:9).
Jesus is not critiquing the crowds but the religious leaders.
Sadly many don’t follow Jesus because of the church.
What they see and hear in church is not SOMETHING GREATER!
In my experience, people outside the church are drawn to Jesus.
They are attracted to his message of grace, mercy and peace.
We need to make Jesus’s message of grace, mercy and peace greater.
We need to make Jesus great again, not our churches or our nations.
Maybe if we made this Jesus greater, the crowds would increase!
PRAYER
Lord, you are greater than me, or my church, or my nation. Help me to show your greatness by reflecting your grace, mercy and peace to the crowds!

    Jesus is many things. John 14 – describes Jesus as the Way, In Matthew – he is a gate; other scriptures – he is the light of the world – here he is a sign as Jesus says about the people that came to him: “It asks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” I see Jesus – who suffered death – alienation from the Father and rose again on the third day – like Jonah coming out of the great fish on the 3rd day! Jesus is now more than a sign to me – he is my Lord and Saviour. I strive to follow him. I am blessed and gifted by the HS – Lord help me live and serve you better!

    Jesus is the answer.
    As Jonah was the messanger, so Jesus is the Messenger and the Message. Listen to Him. Only in Him can I truly live for He is my Master and Friend leading me in the Way to daily walk. Grace and truth shall mark the Way making me an epistle, read by others, showing who is my Master and Friend. Others need to see Christ Jesus in me by my walk and talk.

    1 Grace and truth shall mark the way
    Where the Lord His own will lead,
    If His word they still obey
    And His testimonies heed.
    2 For Thy name’s sake hear Thou me,
    For Thy mercy, Lord, I wait;
    Pardon my iniquity,
    For my sin is very great.
    3 He who walks in godly fear
    In the path of truth shall go;
    Peace shall be his portion here,
    And his sons all good shall know.
    4 They that fear and love the Lord
    Shall His holy friendship know;
    He will grace to them accord,
    And His faithful covenant show.

think about it!

The secret of a good sermon is to have a good beginning and a good ending, then having the two as close together as possible.
