To be a righteous leader!?

Posted on July 7, 2024June 9, 2024 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 94

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Judgment will again be founded on righteousness!” (Psalm 94:16)
The psalmist is struggling with cruel, unfair, misery-causing leaders.
In a sense, it is a warning to all those in positions of leadership.
God will one day restore a righteous kingdom, and remove bad leaders.
What does a righteous leader look like?
The only example that comes to my mind is Jesus.
He did not speak arrogantly, or boast about his greatness (v.4).
He did not crush the the widow, the foreigner, the fatherless (VV.5-6).
He went beneath them to lift them up; he brought relief, not misery (v.20).
A righteous leader looks like Jesus, reflecting his gentle Spirit.
We see many leaders (religious and political) who do not reflect Jesus.
Jesus will hold them (and me) accountable for how we lead.
Thankfully his righteous judgment will be both fair and gracious.
The question is, will I similarly lead in a fair, gracious, Jesus-like way?
Am I the kind of leader that lifts up the weak, or comes down hard on them?
PRAYER
Lord, you are the only righteous leader I know. May your Spirit of love, fairness, grace and goodness be evident in how I lead.

“The Lord knows all human plans; he knows that they are futile…Blessed is the one you discipline, Lord,
the one you teach from your law;”
My hope is in the Lord. It is the Lord who who will mete out justice – it is not for me. Help me Lord to learn your ways – work in my heart by your Spirit so that I might follow you more nearly each day, Lord Jesus! You know me like none other. Help me to do your will in all circumstances. Help me to address any anxiety with confidence in you O Lord! Discipline me and help me grow in the right ways!

The thext which comes tomy mind in today’s reading is – as far as it depends upon me, live at peace with all mankind. That is only a possibility if Ihave Jesus in my heart – living for Jesus. He is in charge and I need to do His will and that will only happen when His Spirit leads me and guides me. Jesus Saviour pilot me so those around me can see that I am Yours and You are mine and the banner over us is love. The love od Christ.

    1 Jesus, Savior, pilot me,
    Over life’s tempestuous sea:
    Unknown waves before me roll,
    Hiding rocks and treach’rous shoal;
Chart and compass come from Thee–
    Jesus, Savior, pilot me!
2 As a mother stills her child,
    Thou canst hush the ocean wild;
    Boist’rous waves obey Thy will
When Thou say’st to them, “Be still!”
    Wondrous Sov’reign of the sea,
    Jesus, Savior, pilot me!
3 When at last I near the shore,
    And the fearful breakers roar
‘Twixt me and the peaceful rest–
Then, while leaning on Thy breast,
May I hear Thee say to me,
