Talking it through with the Lord!

Posted on February 20, 2024February 19, 2024 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 6:12-16

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“He spent the night in prayer to God.” (Luke 6:12)
When is the last time I spent the night in prayer?
I have been awake some nights, where I was wrestling in prayer.
Usually when I am considering (or stressing) a big decision.
Jesus’s big decision seems to have been choosing the apostles.
And why these ones… why include Matthew, or Simon, or Judas?
Was this what kept him awake, like me and my big decisions?
The lesson here is not ‘you must spend nights in prayer!’
It is make God a part of your decisions, especially the big ones.
Don’t just lean on your own understanding; trust in the Lord.
Personally I experience God’s guidance through journaling prayer.
I ‘talk things through’ by writing them out, and I sense God’s leading.
It can look like a pro and con list, only with God’s help.
As we acknowledge God in our decisions, he makes our paths straight.
When might you plan to spend some time in prayer to God?
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for our times together, and for the help you give me as we work things out together. Speak to me this morning as I make plans for today!

Jesus the son of God son of Man: “spent the night praying to God”. Jesus did this before making important decisions – this one was about selecting the disciples he would train including the one that would betray him. If Jesus need to consult with God – how about me? Much too often I don’t – that is my big mistake! I need to spend the time in prayer – and my daily walk in life needs to be prayerful. Holy Spirit stay near to counsel me as I go!

    Prayer.
    Talking to the Lord.
I just read the story of Balaam and Balak. Balaam also asked the Lord what to do.
I am always in His presence and I am daily in need of His guidance. I need to walk with the Lord this day in His Sonshine and the only way to do this is to ask the Lord to lead me and guide me. Then I can go forward in His power for He will be with me if I but listen, trust and obey – doing His will. Thy will be done Lord. Help me on my way in my living for You.

1 He leadeth me: O blessed thought!
O words with heavenly comfort fraught!
    Whate’er I do, where’er I be,
still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me.

    Refrain:
    He leadeth me, he leadeth me;
by his own hand he leadeth me:
his faithful follower I would be,
for by his hand he leadeth me.

2 Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom,
    sometimes where Eden’s flowers bloom,
by waters calm, o’er troubled sea,
still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me. Refrain

3 Lord, I would clasp thy hand in mine,
    nor ever murmur nor repine;
    content, whatever lot I see,
since ’tis my God that leadeth me. Refrain

think about it!

Keeping to the main road is easy, but people love to be sidetracked.
