The step of faith!

Posted on January 13, 2024January 11, 2024 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Joshua 3-4

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“As soon as… their feet touched the water’s edge…” (Joshua 3:15-16)
Notice that the flooding waters (3:15) don’t stop until they step towards it.
This is the step of faith, to go against what we might naturally do.
‘If you want to walk on water, you gotta step out of the boat’. (John Ortberg)
This takes courage, faith and probably a dose of desperation too.
Living the Jesus Way is risky, just as it was for Israel entering Canaan.
Even when tempted or in trouble, follow the way of grace and peace.
People will resist or oppose us, or they will take advantage of us.
What hope do we have to succeed… except that God is with us.
We receive the same promise: “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
Jesus followed God’s path, and came out on the other side.
He assures us that He will go with us to the very end (Matthew 28:20).
Walking with Jesus is God’s way of stopping the flood of evil.
Each gracious step, God’s power is released and miracles start to happen!
PRAYER
Lord, following our way seems weak, and yet this is how you defeated Satan. Help me step with grace into my day, and trust you to turn the tide!

“The Lord your God did to the Jordan what he had done to the Red Sea[c] when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over.” The Ark of the covenant of God’s promises to Israel led the way. The waters divided and the people could cross – just like they did at the Red Sea. The first time the enemy was chasing them but God kept them at a distance. This time God opened up the Jordon and the people had to pass by the Ark to get to the other side – to the land promised to them but still occupied. God was faithful in bringing his chosen people – they crossed into the territory that would become theirs. The stones are a testimony to the parting of waters! May I too be reminded by the testimony stones in my life – how God has helped me through – carried, guided and protected me! Thank you Lord!

    Memory stones.
See what the Lord God has done for us – leading and guiding us in the way to go.
    Trust and obey.
    There is no other way.
Walk with the Saviour now and always. Faith over fear. Do His will. People around us will also see that we are His by our words and deeds. Not my will, but His will be done.
Help me each day anew Lord to walk in Your Way, Your ‘SonShine’.

When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
    he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

think about it!

God makes three requests of his children: Do the best you can, where you are, with what you have, now.
