Greater still!

Posted on November 14, 2023November 14, 2023 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Mark 13:24-27

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“The Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.” (Mark 13:26)
Jesus echoes Isaiah 13:10, 34:4 to describe what seems like cosmic upheaval.
The stars and heavenly bodies were considered powerful beings, with the power to destroy.
We may not be feeling this right now, but I imagine those in Gaza feel this.
Missiles like shooting stars, the whole world around them shaking.
We don’t have to take these words literally to take them seriously.
Yet Jesus was not just mean a distant future time; what he says applies to all of history.
All through history there have been times like this – tumultuous misery and crisis.
I believe that we are always going through these days, somewhere in the world.
Just because we don’t live in them ourselves, doesn’t mean they are not happening.
Jesus’s point is not to scare the disciples, but to urge them to keep looking to him.
No matter how strong the evil and misery seem, Jesus remains greater still!
Through all the upheaval of history, I see Jesus standing on the stormy waves.
Through all the starry missiles and bomb-quakes, Jesus remains unfazed and undefeated.
He WILL be seen by those who refuse to give in to the darkness, who keep looking to his light!
PRAYER
Lord, be near to those who are going through the storm right now. No matter how bad it gets, the storm cannot sink you. No matter how powerful the crisis seems, you are greater still!

Jesus’ second coming will be very obvious and very powerful – we can’t help but notice. It will be scary yet for believers we know that he is coming for us – the end is near when time is no more. Lord, help me to e faithful for all the days you give me to serve – help me be a faithful servant using the gifts and opportunities you give me to serve. “Lead me, guide me along the way – for if you lead me, I cannot stray.” [Psh 544]

The end times is described and His people need to be prepared. I need to be prepared in times like these – these days. I need faith and trust in God. He will come again. In times like these I need to reflect on what is most import and pray. Pray for guidance. Jesus continues to call us, to follow Him for He is our help our comfort, our hope.

1 Jesus calls us o’er the tumult
    of our life’s wild, restless sea;
day by day His sweet voice soundeth,
    saying, “Christian, follow me.”
Jesus calls us from the worship
of the vain world’s golden store,
from each idol that would keep us,
    saying, “Christian, love me more.”

2 In our joys and in our sorrows,
days of toil and hours of ease,
still He calls, in cares and pleasures,
“Christian, love me more than these.”
Jesus calls us- by Thy mercies,
    Savior, may we hear Thy call;
give our hearts to Thine obedience,
serve and love Thee best of all.

think about it!

The difference between involvement and commitment is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was involved – the pig was committed.
