Is this is from the Lord?

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Genesis 23-24

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“This is from the Lord; we can say nothing to you one way or the other.” (Genesis 24:50)
What is the difference between a coincidence and a God-incident?
I’m not sure there is any difference, since I see God’s hand in all things.
It is not that we are puppets in an already scripted play with no freedom to adlib.
Laban could have made things hard – he will with Jacob – and Rebekah could have said no.
We have choices to make everyday as well, and sometimes the Lord’s hand seems obvious.
That is, all the signs point towards the Lord’s will and purpose at work in it.
Like the servant we must be looking for these signs, and trusting the the Lord to lead.
Sometimes it is not so clear, and in those times we need to follow the Lord’s will too.
If Rebekah had said no, the the servant was not free to kidnap her – not the Lord’s will.
Discerning the Lord’s will is not a science, there is much room for interpretation.
But as seek and serve the Lord, our prayerful hearts will get better at discernment.
We will increasingly sense the Spirit within saying ‘yes’ or ‘no’ ‘not yet’.
And when we choose wrongly, he will lovingly guide and direct us on that path too.
All incidents have God’s fingerprints on them; may we keep seeking and serving his will!
PRAYER
Lord, I choose to trust that your hand is at work in all circumstances, drawing me towards you and your will. Help me to choose well, and gently correct me when I am mistaken.

  1. I will pay the price of the field.“ Abraham says. He does not want a gift from the people around him. Sarah is buried on Abraham’s own land that he bought/redeemed from the Hittites. This is on land that the Lord promised to give to his ancestors and therefore he wanted it to be his own deeded land. Rebecca also says “I will go” when she learns how she has been called through the actions of Abraham’s servant Eliezer. She is also deliberate and resolved and becomes a matriarch of the people of Israel. I too must be deliberate and follow the hope I have in Jesus Christ – that all I do has my now and my future in his hands. Help me to do your will O Lord!

  2. Doing God’s will.
Today, as every day, is the Lord’s day, and I am always living in His presence.
Knowing that do I sense or feel His presence in all things. Do I look for His presence? Do I pray throughout the day for Him to show me the way to go?
Where do I see the hand of God throughout the day?
    Open my eyes Lord.

    Open my eyes, Lord
Help me to see Your face
    Open my eyes, Lord
    Help me to see

    Open my ears, Lord
Help me to hear Your voice
    Open my ears, Lord
    Help me to hear

    Open my heart, Lord
Help me to love like You
    Open my heart, Lord
    Help me to love
