Mar 29 — Hebrews 2:1-18

Posted on March 28, 2007November 8, 2023 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 2:1-18

OBSERVATION:
How much more important is the message of Jesus than the old covenant (vv.1-3).
The message of Jesus was confirmed by those with Him (disciples), as well as by God through signs and wonders, and through the Holy Spirit (vv.3-4).
The world is entrusted to humans (vv.6-8 quotes Psalm 8:4-6), but we have lost that position through sin, so Jesus comes to restore humanity by making them holy (vv.8-13).
Shows how Jesus became human in order to set humans free (vv.14-18)
Jesus dies to destroy the power of death (Satan).
Jesus suffers and endures temptation, like us, so that He can help us – a merciful and faithful highpriest.

APPLICATION:
A simple summary of God’s creation, of what went wrong, and how God sends Jesus to fix things.
Jesus came to restore me (us) to my rightful place as steward of creation. He breaks the power of sin, Satan, death and hell, and opens the way for me back to God.
Jesus is the kind of Saviour I need, one who understands the burden of sin (so He can sympathize) and who overcomes the burden of sin (so He can rescue me).
We are very poor stewards of God’s creation, but good news, Jesus has taken over and He will set things straight for us!
Being tempted is an attack, a form of suffering, and our enemy knows how to torment us with temptation. It lulls us into doing stupid things.

PRAYER:
Lord, help me to drill it into my head and heart that my enemies (sin, death, Satan, hell) have been defeated, and that the best place for me to turn for help is You. Amen.

Listen to the Word of the Lord. Stay on track. See and know that we have been redeemed through His death. We are now His sons of glory, children of God. Because Jesus became like one of us, the power of the devil has been destroyed. Because Jesus made atonement, He is able to help us in our service to God.

Thank You Lord that I am part of the family of God. Through the life, death, resurrextion and ascension of my Saviour, I have new life in Jesus Chriist. Help me in my service to You. Help me daily to see that all things exist for You and through You. Help me daily to declare Your name and help me to sing your praises.

I will sing of the mercies of the Lord
    forever
I will sing, I will sing.
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord
    forever,
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord.

With my mouth will I make known
    Thy faithfulness, Thy faithfulness.
With my mouth will I make known
    Thy faithfulness to all generations.

think about it!

Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear – not absence of fear.
