Following God’s word!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 119:1-24

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“By living according to your word!” (Psalm 119:9)
For Israel, the Law was everything: their hope, their light, their salvation.
The Law represented their relationship with God, how God could live among them.
Most christians read Psalm 119 as if it were about the bible.
But the bible is not the new Law: Jesus is!
Jesus is the word of God made flesh: our hope, our light, our salvation.
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
Jesus is God’s truth to us, we are to “seek him with all our heart!” (119:10).
The scriptures point to us to Jesus, that we might “walk according to” him.
I know that today the bible is how we know Jesus (thank you Jesus for this gift).
Jesus, God’s word in the flesh, speaks to us through the bible.
In this way, we can say that the bible is God’s word to us.
But our primary focus and confidence is Jesus, not Moses, not the Law, not the bible.
I still read the OT, but I always filter it through Jesus: my hope, my light, my salvation.
“I rejoice in following Jesus as one rejoices in great riches.” (Psalm 119:14)
PRAYER
Lord, may my devotion to you be inspired by David’s devotion to the Law. Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in you!

  1. “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Jesus gave us the promised gift of the HS – to me He is the hidden word in my heart! The HS is the key – He helps me keep God’s righteous precepts. I know I am prone to sin – yet I have a hope – not only in forgiveness through Jesus – but through the nudging of the Word in my heart! Staying close to Jesus in this way is the way to live! Draw me nearer I pray!
