Oct 29 — Acts 22:22-29

Welcome to Jill Hamming, a friend of mine from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and a regular participant on this web page. She will share her reflections on the readings from Acts 20-23.

Scripture: Acts 22:22-29

Paul’s wild adventure continues. He’s been saved from the angry mob, allowed to speak, threatened by the crowd again, rescued by the same commander who then wants to flog him! What a strange twist that where he was born prevents the torture. God knew that all this would happen. Paul trusts Him.

In 2 Cor. 4:17 Paul talks about his “light and momentary troubles” and the “eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” Paul sees the big picture and that this scary life he was living was only a small part compared to eternity.

Next to Paul I daresay that most of our troubles are pretty small… Today, to do my part of spreading the Gospel, I drove over four hours (in a comfortable car on good roads) with a swollen toe (not on my driving foot). That’s as physically painful as my work gets… but I still whined about it…

Dear Lord, Open our eyes to see the ‘big picture’; the one that You are in charge of. Let us understand our little place in the grand story of Your World. Thank-you that we can count on You to direct our part. Thank-you that You are totally trustworthy. Amen.
