Mar 28 — Hebrews 1:1-14

Posted on March 27, 2007November 8, 2023 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 1:1-14

OBSERVATION:
God speaks in a variety of ways but Jesus (the Son) is the ultimate message from God.
The Son of God (also known as the “Word of God”, John 1:1-5) is how God made the universe, is the ruler of the universe, and is the revelation of God to the universe (the way that we meet and relate to God is through the Son). He is the “radiance of God’s glory” and the “exact representation of His being”.
Jesus (the Son) is greater than the angels. Not sure why the author mentions this unless there were people he was writing to who worshiped/honoured angels as the way that God revealed Himself to people. God does use angels, but they are servants to us, their role is to lead us to God and to the Son.
The message to all people, to all religions and faiths: if you want to know God, get to know Jesus, He is the only and the best revelation of God!

APPLICATION:
Do I understand and appreciate that Jesus is the ultimate revelation of God?
If I want to hear God, and if God communicates through Jesus, then I need to somehow seek (reach out to) Jesus, the Son of God. All other attempts at connecting with or hearing God (angels, seances, horoscopes) miss the way to God. Simple prayer, talking to Jesus (i.e. God with us) is the key, yet many people find this hard to do/accept.
Our God is a communicating God, He wants to talk with us, relate with us, listen to us. What an amazing concept, that I should be able to have a conversation with the God of the universe.
The hard part is that God and Jesus are invisible, and they do not normally speak audibly. He uses “sign language” or communicates through other mediums (Bible, other people, experiences, circumstances, feelings, impressions, thoughts, creation).

PRAYER:
Lord, You are talking to me, but I confess I find it hard to hear You. I wish You spoke more loudly, more clearly, more visibly. Yet it is also true that when You do communicate a clear message, I often ignore it or make excuses. Forgive me, and please help me to experience You, loud and clear! Amen.

    God has used many different ways to speak to His people, but none surpass the glory when He speaks to us through His Son, Jesus Christ. In Him we see all the power and the glory and the honour and the wisdom and the Father. He is part of the Trinity and in Him we also see the glory of His grace. We are told of His powerful, sovereign work, We are told of Him making the world but also of changing that world that needed salvation. It is interesting that the angels are mentioned, because as their presence and role was not understood yesteryear, these servants of Christ (their role/their presence) are not fully understood today either.

    Thank You Lord that You continue to speak to me as You have done to Your people throughout the centuries. Give me the ears that hear Your voice anew each and every morning as I start the day serving You. The song ringing in my heart is –

    Lord, speak to me, that I may speak
    in living echoes of thy tone;
    as thou has sought, so let me seek
    thine erring children lost and lone.

    O teach me, Lord, that I may teach
    the precious things thou dost impart;
    and wing my words, that they may reach
    the hidden depths of many a heart.

    O use me, Lord, use even me,
    just as thou wilt, and when, and where,
    until thy blessed face I see,
    thy rest, thy joy, thy glory share.
