What Jesus prescribes!

Posted on February 6, 2021February 5, 2021 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 1 Chronicles 14-15

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“We did not inquire of him about how to do it in the prescribed way.” (1 Chronicles 15:13)
Are there “prescribed ways” for how we are to relate to God?
As Jesus followers, we believe we are no longer under the Moses Law.
We do not worship God at a temple, in a box, according to prescribed laws and rituals.
The Law of Christ is what guides us, and it calls us to love God and people.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” (1 Corinthians 13:1-3)

We too can “inquire” of the Lord to discern what this kind of love looks like.
Do I have a heart for God and people, and a desire to bless God and people?
Am I serving God like Jesus, by serving those people he sends into my life?
This is the kind of relationship God wants with us, one that is prescribed by love, not law.
Be a living sacrifice for God and others – this is true and proper worship (Romans 12:1).
PRAYER
Lord, we can do all kinds of religious things, but if we do not have love for God or others, then it means nothing. May my life bring a smile to everyone’s heart – yours, others and mine!

“It was because you, the Levites, did not bring it up the first time that the Lord our God broke out in anger against us. We did not inquire of him about how to do it in the prescribed way.” David realizes his mistake – and now he leads and instructs the Levites and priests to consecrate themselves and prepare to take the ‘Ark’ to Jerusalem. And successful they were – and David is humbled before God – and emotionally joyful that the Ark of God’s covenant would now come to Jerusalem – the place where Melchizedek came from some many years before – to bless Abram. Now we’re full circle and we see the answer to the promise made to Abram/Abraham! Let me be your servant Lord – humble and honest – knowing I don’t deserve to be – may your spirit be present in my heart I pray – for then I really live!

David inquired of the Lord. I need to do the same with my living for Jesus. Where is Christ in all the things I do each day? I need to walk and talk with Him in all things. Have Thine own way Lord.
And in my living for Him may I joyfully serve Him so that others can see the joy of the Lord within me – Christ Jesus living in me.

Have Thine own way Lord! Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay!
Mold me a make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.

Have Thine own way Lord! Have Thine own way!
Search me and try me, Master, today.
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now,
As in Thy presence humbly I bow.

think about it!

Community… is the place where our limitations and our egoism are revealed to us. When we begin to live full-time with others, we discover our poverty and our weakness, our inability to get on with people, our mental and emotional blocks, our seemingly insatiable desires, our frustrations and jealousies, our hatred and our wish to destroy.
