Lord of all time!

Posted on November 5, 2020November 4, 2020 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Mark 12:35-37

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?” (Mark 12:37).
The teachers of the law viewed the messiah as a God-anointed human from the line of David.
But Jesus suggests that the messiah is more than just a ‘son of David’.
Jesus shows how in Psalm 110:1 David talks about YHWH speaking to his “lord”.
Who is YHWH speaking to, and how can this person be David’s Lord?
The implication here is that the messiah is not JUST a human son of David.
Somehow the messiah was present and part of the plan when David was king.
Jesus does not explain how, but he is saying that he is more than just a human.
Who is Jesus to me, and how do I relate to Jesus?
For me Jesus is more than just a human Lord; he is the living Son of God.
What this means is not clearly spelled out, but he is more than just a human helper.
Somehow the messiah existed in David’s time, and even before, from the beginning.
“Glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.” (John 17:5)
I cannot explain it, but the incarnate Jesus existed with God from the beginning.
This changes how I relate to him; not just as my Lord now, but as my Lord for all time!
PRAYER
Lord, you are timeless, yet you are with us in time. You are the beginning and the end, and everything in between. In you everything holds together, including me. This keeps me strong and hopeful, when everything in time seems to be falling apart.

Lord thank you for being outside of our limited understanding. Thank you for give us the the longing to comprehend you even though we won’t be able to. Help us delight in your revelations as they “click” in place, and we realize how much further we have yet to understand.

Did the people understand that the Messiah is the son of David and the son of God – that Jesus was with the Father beyond the limit of time. It says they delighted in Jesus question – I’m sure that reveled in his mystery and saw him like a prophet – he gave them a glimpse of the Messiah beyond their understanding – the mystery. I’m comforted by receiving yet another gift how scripture reveals itself – prophetic words of David speaking of Jesus – his future son as Lord in the present. It only works by believing Jesus who he says he is – son of God – son of man.

Jesus is Lord and Master of my life. Once again today I serve Him for this is the day He created. All for Jesus.

    Jesus, all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be
    Jesus, all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be

All of my ambitions, hopes and plans
I surrender these into Your hands
All of my ambitions, hopes and plans
I surrender these into Your hands

For it’s only in Your will that I am free
For it’s only in Your will that I am free
    Jesus, all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be

think about it!

There are those who seek knowledge for the sake of knowledge; That is curiosity. There are those who seek knowledge to be known by others; That is vanity. There are those who seek knowledge in order to serve; That is love.

— Bernard of Clairvaux
